Advanced Placement Modern European History is a fast paced, in depth, and comprehensive analysis of the political, economic, geographic, cultural, social, and diplomatic trends that have shaped Europe, and the world, from the end of the Middle Ages to the current century. The course follows a chronological pattern while simultaneously exploring various themes associated with the evolution of modern Europe. Specific units include the Renaissance and the Reformation, the formation of European nation-states, the Enlightenment, and the French Revolution and Napoleon. Other topics include the era of Nationalism, Industrialism, Imperialism, and the confluence of events and ideas which culminated in two World Wars, the Cold War, and contemporary Europe. Throughout, students are exposed to various historical interpretations and develop specialized essay writing skills and primary source analyses as they prepare for the National Advanced Placement Exam on Friday, May 10.
